I am an award-winning environmental artist, scholar, and educator.
I was born in Havana, Cuba; the city inspired me to create places full of joy. I now live in Washington, DC.
Through my art, I seek to celebrate sites of joy and bring light to sites of sorrow.
I believe in the power of art and memory to inspire and bring us together with solidarity and solace.
This faith led me to projects in Ukraine, to remember victims of the Holocaust and Russian terror. It continues to inspire my work at home and abroad.
I believe art and creativity can bring transformation and renewal. Knowledge of our shared past can nurture faith in a common future. These civic actions bind people to places and affirm life and love.
